Forest Sack Postecoglou After Winless Streak Stretches to Eight Games

Nottingham Forest have dismissed manager Ange Postecoglou after a dismal run of eight matches without victory, ending his turbulent tenure just over a month after his appointment.

The decision came hours after Forest suffered a 3–0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground on Saturday, a result that left the team hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.

In a brief statement posted on its website and X handle, the club said:

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The club will make no further comment at this time.”

Postecoglou’s reign, which lasted 39 days, produced no wins, six losses, and only two draws, against Burnley and Real Betis.

The nadir came in the Carabao Cup, where Forest conceded two stoppage-time goals to lose 3–2 to Swansea City after leading 2–1.

The Greek-Australian coach, who joined Forest in September following Nuno Espírito Santo’s exit, had hoped to stabilise the team after their poor start. Instead, his arrival coincided with a deeper slide in form.

Just two weeks earlier, Postecoglou had told reporters he remained “calm and focused” despite growing speculation over his future. But the latest defeat appeared to seal his fate, with club owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly leaving the stadium before full-time.

Postecoglou’s dismissal marks his second sacking in four months. He was previously removed as Tottenham Hotspur manager in June, only 16 days after guiding the club to its first major trophy in 17 years, a Europa League triumph over Manchester United in Bilbao.

Forest’s struggles this season have left them 17th in the Premier League table with five points from eight matches, just one above the drop zone.

The club has yet to announce a successor, but reports suggest Sean Dyche and Steve Cooper are among the early contenders for the job.

With another managerial change in quick succession, Forest now face the challenge of steadying their campaign before their next league fixture.
