Ogunlewe Warns Against Illegal Land Acquisitions in Kosofe

The Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Area, Barrister Moyo Ogunlewe, has warned residents and property developers against acquiring or developing landed properties without proper authorization and verification from relevant government agencies.
Speaking in response to recent demolition exercises and disputes over land ownership within the Kosofe axis, Ogunlewe emphasized that the council would not tolerate illegal encroachments or unapproved constructions.
He noted that many of the affected structures in recent demolitions were built on government-acquired land or drainage channels, posing serious environmental and safety risks.
“The era of reckless acquisition of land without due diligence is over,” Ogunlewe said. “Before buying or building, residents must confirm the legal status of the property and obtain all necessary approvals.
The local government will continue to enforce compliance with planning laws to protect lives and ensure orderly development.”
He further advised estate agents, surveyors, and community leaders to educate prospective buyers on the importance of land verification to prevent loss of investments. Ogunlewe also reassured law-abiding property owners that the council’s enforcement actions are not targeted but are aimed at restoring urban order and preventing future disasters.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over unregulated land sales and illegal constructions across Lagos State, as authorities intensify efforts to sanitize the built environment and reclaim encroached public spaces.
