Police Decry Lack of Coordination with Lawyers in Enforcing Court Orders

The Nigeria Police Force has voiced concern over a significant lack of coordination and mutual understanding between its officers and legal practitioners when it comes to enforcing court orders concerning criminal suspects.
This issue was raised by the Head of the Legal Department of Zone 1 Headquarters in Kano, Barrister CSP Nura Sa’idu, during a stakeholders’ meeting.
The meeting, organized by Partners West Africa Nigeria in collaboration with the Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative, aimed to strengthen cooperation between the police and the legal community.
CSP Sa’idu noted that the current absence of synergy frequently results in delays in enforcing court orders, which, in turn, can disrupt the administration of justice and pose a threat to public peace.
He emphasized the crucial need to clearly define the roles and boundaries of both police officers and lawyers to prevent interference, conflict, and procedural breakdowns that undermine the integrity of the justice system.
