Ex-Convict Arrested for Allegedly Killing Girlfriend Over N100,000 Loan in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a 37-year-old ex-convict, identified as Omokinwa Ademola, for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, to death following a disagreement over a loan repayment.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the incident occurred in Idanre Local Government Area of the state. The statement explained that on October 7, 2025, at about 5:30 p.m., one Ngozi Gregory, a 45-year-old woman, reported the matter to the Idanre Divisional Police Headquarters.
She alleged that Ademola, an ex-convict, violently attacked his girlfriend, Joy, after she demanded a refund of N100,000 he had borrowed from her.
“During the heated exchange, the suspect became aggressive and repeatedly assaulted the victim until she lost consciousness. She was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment but was later confirmed dead by a medical practitioner,” DSP Olayinka said.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Idanre led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
The body of the deceased was deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while preliminary investigations began at the division.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, condemned the act of violence, describing it as “unacceptable and barbaric.”
He reiterated the Command’s determination to ensure justice is served and warned that domestic violence and similar acts of brutality would not be tolerated in any form.
The Commissioner has also directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for a comprehensive and professional investigation. Lawal assured the public that the suspect would face the full weight of the law once investigations are concluded.
The investigation is now focusing on the suspect’s criminal history to ascertain if there’s a pattern of violent behavior, especially in domestic disputes, as the community expresses shock and outrage over the brutal nature of the killing. Local residents interviewed by journalists expressed dismay, noting that such acts of violence are deeply unsettling, particularly coming from someone recently released from correctional services. The police are also gathering further statements from witnesses, neighbors, and the individual who reported the crime to build a robust case that addresses both the fatal assault and the underlying history between the ex-convict and the deceased, Joy Jimoh.
