Ben Murray-Bruce Dumps PDP, Joins APC, Citing Tinubu’s Leadership, Economic Reforms

Former Senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce, has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Wednesday, Murray-Bruce said his decision was driven by his belief in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, which he described as bold, visionary, and result-oriented.
“I have known President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 1998. I know the man’s mind, his courage, and his conviction. He is not driven by applause; he is driven by results,” he said. “And today, I can boldly say to you that he is on the right track.”
The former lawmaker, popularly known as the “common sense senator,” praised the Tinubu administration for what he termed “pragmatic economic reforms” aimed at repositioning Nigeria for long-term growth. “For the first time in our history, we have a President who truly understands finance — one who views the economy not as a political slogan but as a living system that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to thrive,” he stated.
According to him, the difficult policies being implemented by the government are essential building blocks for future prosperity. He emphasized that Nigeria is transitioning toward a free-market economy that rewards productivity and innovation rather than dependency.
Murray-Bruce further commended the administration’s efforts in national security, monetary policy, and infrastructure development. He noted that the appointment of a professional National Security Adviser had improved internal security, while the Central Bank’s reforms were helping to stabilize the naira and attract foreign investment.
“Our foreign policy is again respected. Fuel supply is deregulated, and we will never again experience the shame of fuel scarcity. The numbers are beginning to speak, investments are returning, and the world is watching Nigeria rise again,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s infrastructure agenda, he pointed to ongoing projects in roads, ports, airports, and housing as “the arteries through which growth and opportunity now flow.” While acknowledging that many Nigerians are still struggling under current economic realities, Murray-Bruce urged patience, stressing that “reform is never painless, but it is through sacrifice that nations are reborn.”
He concluded by affirming his commitment to Tinubu’s vision, declaring that his decision to join the APC was not merely political but rooted in faith in Nigeria’s future. “I am joining the APC not for politics, but for progress. I believe Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of.
“Mark my words — in eight years, Nigeria will witness phenomenal growth. I choose to stand with that vision, with reform, and with the future,” he said.
