Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah Dumps PDP for APC

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mbah announced his defection on Tuesday in Enugu during a televised address, stating that his decision followed a long period of reflection and consultation with stakeholders across the state.

He explained that his move to the APC was driven by a desire to align with the party’s progressive vision and to attract greater federal support for the development of Enugu State.

According to the governor, joining the APC would enable his administration to consolidate ongoing projects and implement policies that will ensure sustainable growth and prosperity for the people of Enugu.

Mbah’s entire cabinet, including commissioners and key aides, also defected to the APC alongside him.

The move was later affirmed in a video circulating on social media showing the governor and his team being received by top APC leaders.

In his remarks, Mbah expressed appreciation to members of the PDP for their support over the years, noting that his defection was not a rejection of past alliances but a strategic decision aimed at ensuring Enugu State’s continued progress within the mainstream of national politics.

The development marks a major political realignment in the South East, with observers describing Mbah’s defection as a significant boost for the APC ahead of future elections in the region.

The reaction to Governor Mbah’s defection has been mixed, with immediate and vocal responses from both political parties. The state chapter of the PDP swiftly condemned the move, labeling it a betrayal of the mandate given to him and suggesting it was motivated by personal ambition rather than public good. Conversely, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) issued a statement welcoming Mbah, praising his courage and vision, and asserting that his entry would galvanize the party’s presence and electoral fortunes not just in Enugu but across the entire South East geopolitical zone.
