Dangote Cement Opens ₦100bn Plant in Côte d’Ivoire, Expands African Footprint

Dangote Cement has commenced operations at its new 3-million-tonne-capacity plant in Attingué, about 30 kilometres from Abidjan, marking a major expansion of its presence across West Africa.

The Managing Director of Dangote Cement Côte d’Ivoire, Serge Gbotta, announced the launch during a press briefing at Novotel Abidjan-Marcory, describing the project as a milestone in industrial investment and regional self-sufficiency.

Spanning 50 hectares, the facility represents an investment of ₦100 billion (100 billion CFA francs) and is one of the largest Dangote Cement operations outside Nigeria.

The plant is expected to create more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, boosting local employment and supporting small and medium enterprises involved in logistics, retail, and services.

“This plant is more than an industrial unit — it is a symbol of confidence in Côte d’Ivoire’s future,” Gbotta said. “Our goal is to provide Ivorians with world-class cement, produced locally and offered at competitive prices.”

With the new facility, Côte d’Ivoire becomes the 11th African country to host a Dangote Cement production unit, contributing to the group’s total installed capacity of 55 million tonnes annually across the continent.

The company also plans to establish training programmes through the Dangote Academy to develop young engineers and technicians in industrial management, further strengthening local expertise.

Speaking at the event, the Commercial Director of Dangote Cement Côte d’Ivoire, Stéphane Tchimou, said the new plant would support the country’s construction sector by ensuring steady access to high-quality materials.

“Reliable, high-performance cement is essential for masons, contractors, and craftsmen. Our distribution network will ensure availability across all regions,” he said, adding that small retailers would benefit from credit facilities and commercial support to enhance the cement supply chain.

Dangote Cement also pledged to invest in community development projects around the Attingué area, including road rehabilitation, clean water provision, and health centre support in partnership with local authorities and NGOs.

President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, reaffirmed the company’s continental vision, saying:

“Africa is full of opportunities. Our mission is to tell a new story — one of innovation, production, and progress for future generations.”
