Nigerian Firm Denies Involvement in NNPC-Linked Alleged Fraud, Faults Freezing of Account

Mars Aviation Limited, a Nigerian firm associated with businessman Bashir Haske, has refuted claims linking it to an alleged fraud involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). The company described the allegations as “baseless and malicious,” while condemning the freezing of its bank account by order of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Justice Musa Liman of the Federal High Court had earlier granted an interim order directing Fidelity Bank to freeze the firm’s account following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The anti-graft agency reportedly told the court that the account was being investigated in connection with alleged illicit transactions tied to NNPCL.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Mars Aviation Limited maintained that its operations are “lawful, transparent, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements.” The company further expressed disappointment at what it termed “a premature and damaging move” by the EFCC, arguing that the freezing order was obtained without giving it the opportunity to present its side of the story.
“We categorically deny any involvement in fraudulent activities or any wrongdoing whatsoever. Our dealings with government agencies and partners have always been guided by due process and professionalism,” the statement read in part.
Mars Aviation added that it has already instructed its legal team to challenge the court order and seek redress, insisting that the EFCC’s actions have caused “serious reputational and operational damage.”
The company urged the public to disregard what it described as “media misrepresentations” of the case, calling on relevant authorities to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.
As of press time, the EFCC had yet to issue an official response to the company’s statement.
