Ex-VP Namadi Sambo Officially Turbaned as Sardaunan Zazzau in Grand Ceremony

Former Vice President Architect Namadi Sambo has been officially turbaned as the Sardaunan Zazzau, one of the highest traditional titles in the Zazzau Emirate, during a ceremony held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The event was presided over by the current Emir, Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli.

Sambo was initially conferred the title in 2014 by the late Emir, Alhaji Shehu Idris, in recognition of his notable contributions to the development of the Zazzau Emirate, Kaduna State, and Nigeria.

However, the formal turbaning ceremony had been delayed until October 2025.

The coronation ceremony drew a host of dignitaries, including Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, former President Goodluck Jonathan, several current and former governors, traditional and religious leaders, and other prominent figures.

Emir Bamalli emphasized Sambo’s role as a unifying figure and expressed hope that he would continue to foster peace, harmony, and development within the emirate and across the nation.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also congratulated Sambo, commending his leadership, dedication, and long-standing service to Nigeria.

Tinubu expressed confidence that Sambo would continue contributing positively to national development in his new role.

The Sardaunan Zazzau title is among the highest honors in the emirate, reserved for individuals demonstrating exceptional leadership, service, and commitment to the community. Sambo’s turbaning underscores his enduring dedication to public service and his strong ties to the Zazzau Emirate.

As the new Sardaunan Zazzau, Sambo is expected to play a pivotal role in bridging traditional leadership with contemporary governance, promoting unity, and supporting sustainable development initiatives throughout the region.
