APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda Donates ₦50 Million to Plateau Market Women

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has donated the sum of ₦50 million to market women in Plateau State as part of efforts to support grassroots economic empowerment and women’s participation in commerce.
Yilwatda made the donation during a Breakfast Meeting with Market Women held in Jos on Wednesday, where he commended the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of women traders across the state.
Speaking at the event, the APC chairman recounted his childhood experiences growing up in Plateau and how he witnessed firsthand the struggles many families faced in sustaining their livelihoods.
He said the gesture was his personal contribution toward uplifting women who play a key role in the state’s economy.
“Out of the ₦50 million, ₦20 million will be shared directly among the women to boost their businesses, while the remaining ₦30 million will be used to establish a cooperative society that will ensure continuity and sustainability of this support,” Yilwatda explained.
He emphasized that the APC-led Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully committed to improving the welfare of citizens, especially through programs that promote financial inclusion and empowerment for women and youths.
“President Tinubu’s administration believes in empowering the people rather than giving handouts. What we are doing here today is a reflection of that philosophy building a sustainable base for our women traders to grow and thrive,” he added.
The chairman expressed optimism that the cooperative society, once established, would grant market women access to low-interest loans, training, and better market opportunities.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of a symbolic ₦50 million cheque, which was received on behalf of the market women by Mama Mary, a leader of the Market Women Association in Plateau State.
Mama Mary, in her remarks, thanked Prof. Yilwatda for his generosity and assured him that the funds would be used judiciously to empower women across various markets in the state.
“This is a big relief for many of us who have been struggling to keep our businesses alive in the face of rising costs. We thank the APC chairman for remembering us,” she said.
The event was attended by several party stalwarts, women leaders, and representatives of different market associations across the state.
