Dr. Zacch Adedeji Marks Two Years as FIRS Chairman, Reflects on Achievements

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has recorded significant milestones under the leadership of Dr. Zacch Adedeji, who has completed two years in office.

During this period, the FIRS has implemented various reforms and initiatives aimed at improving tax administration, enhancing revenue collection, and promoting a more efficient and transparent tax system.

One of the notable achievements of Dr. Adedeji’s tenure is the surpassing of revenue targets, with the FIRS collecting N21.6 trillion in 2024. The agency has also launched an e-invoicing system for large taxpayers to reduce leakages and increase transparency.

Additionally, the TaxPro Max portal has been upgraded with new modules, automating over 80% of processes and making it easier for taxpayers to interact with the FIRS.

Dr. Adedeji has also prioritized staff welfare, introducing performance-based promotions and improving welfare packages by 60%. The FIRS has strengthened its anti-corruption drive through a partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Furthermore, the agency has certified 16 tech firms to support e-invoicing integration, and strategic retreats have been held to align the FIRS with equity and economic growth.

Under Dr. Adedeji’s leadership, the FIRS has submitted four executive tax reform bills to the National Assembly, which have now been signed into law.

The agency has also published over 50 years of tax revenue data, pioneered the FIRS Journal of Tax Studies, and introduced an Annual Research Day.

These initiatives demonstrate the FIRS’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and innovation in tax administration.

As Dr. Adedeji looks to the future, he has set an ambitious revenue target of N25.2 trillion for 2025. With his leadership, the FIRS is poised to continue driving reforms and initiatives that support economic growth, fairness, and efficiency in tax administration.
