Federal Legislators Demand Swift Action After Deadly Attacks Rock Kwara South
The precarious security situation in parts of Kwara State has been thrust into the national spotlight following a decisive resolution by the House of Representatives, urging immediate federal intervention to curb a lethal surge in violence across the Ifelodun, Offa, and Oyun Federal Constituency.
The call for urgent action came today after a compelling motion presented by the area’s representative, Honourable Tijani Kayode Ismail, who used the floor of the lower chamber to bring the crisis in Kwara South, particularly Oke-Ode and other sections of Ifelodun, to national attention.
The representative’s plea highlighted the escalating security threats imperiling citizens’ safety, livelihoods, and access to education.
“Our constituents are gripped by fear. Agricultural activities have stalled as farmers abandon their fields, and entire settlements are being uprooted,” stated Hon. Ismail, representing the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency. He stressed that the crisis transcends local boundaries, posing a significant risk to food security and overall stability within Kwara State.
The lawmaker drew particular attention to a recent, devastating incident on Sunday, September 28, 2025, in Oke-Ode. The tragic event reportedly claimed the lives of approximately 15 individuals, among them eleven forest security personnel and the traditional head of Ogbayo, allegedly at the hands of armed assailants.
Hon. Ismail voiced profound concern that without immediate, decisive action, the continuous wave of aggression could spiral into a broader regional security breakdown. He firmly stated, “This is not merely a regional concern; it jeopardises food production and peace in Kwara State.”
Following an intense plenary debate, the House of Representatives took a series of critical steps. Members collectively expressed their deepest condolences to the families of those who perished in the violence.
Furthermore, they resolved to mandate the nation’s top security brass—specifically the Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector General of Police, and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)—to immediately bolster troop deployment and execute coordinated security operations throughout the afflicted communities.
Hon. Ismail, who contributes to several key House Committees including Air Force, Finance, and Public Accounts, reaffirmed his commitment to restoring calm. “Our solemn obligation is to our people: to ensure these fatalities cease and that all perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted,” he vowed, underscoring that peace and security remain his foremost legislative priority.
