Tinubu to Gen. Irabor at 60: You’re a True Commander, Defender of the Nation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Eluonye Irabor (retd), on the occasion of his 60th birthday, describing him as a true commander and a dedicated defender of the Nigerian nation.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu commended General Irabor for his exemplary service, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to Nigeria’s unity and security throughout his military career.
The President noted that as Chief of Defence Staff, General Irabor demonstrated exceptional leadership and strategic acumen, particularly in coordinating joint military operations against insurgent groups during one of the most challenging periods in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
“General Irabor’s record of service stands as a testament to courage, discipline, and loyalty to the Nigerian state. His leadership at the helm of the Armed Forces helped strengthen inter-service collaboration and brought renewed vigour to the campaign against insurgency and other forms of insecurity,” the President said.
President Tinubu also praised the retired general’s continued contributions to national development and policy dialogue after his retirement from active service, describing him as “a model officer and gentleman whose integrity and devotion to the country remain unquestionable.”
While wishing him many more years in good health and peace, President Tinubu prayed for God’s continued guidance upon General Irabor and his family.
General Irabor, who hails from Delta State, served as Chief of Defence Staff between January 2021 and June 2023. He previously held key command positions, including Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole and Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in the Lake Chad region.
