ASUBEB Obeys Otti’s Directive, Begins Reposting New Teachers to Preferred Schools

The Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) has complied with the directive issued by Governor Alex Otti, initiating a process that allows newly recruited teachers in the state to select their preferred work locations.

Addressing Teacher Discontent

The directive follows complaints made last month by some new teachers, particularly married women, who rejected their initial postings due to the long distances and associated inconveniences to their families.

Acting on the Governor’s instruction, the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Lydia Ezihe Onuoha, released a statement confirming that her office has commenced the process of posting and reposting the teachers. The goal is to place the educators in schools where they can “function effectively and contribute meaningfully to the development of the Abia education system.”

Onuoha urged the affected teachers to submit specific details, including their full names, staff identity cards, phone numbers, current places of primary assignment, and their preferred places of primary assignment.

The information is to be submitted to the ASUBEB Executive Chairman’s office in Umuahia or via the designated SMS and WhatsApp contact number.

The statement emphasized that posting the new teachers to their preferred locations is expected to enhance fairness, efficiency, and quality within the education sector.

This move aligns with Governor Otti’s earlier warning last month to education officials, where he threatened sanctions against those who refused to carry out his instructions regarding posting teachers to optimal locations for effective functioning.
