I’ve Not Heard Tinubu Complain About Challenges He Inherited as President, Says Mohammed

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his calm and determined approach to governance, noting that since assuming office, the President has not publicly complained about the challenges his administration inherited.

Speaking in Abuja, Idris said the President’s focus has remained on implementing bold reforms and rebuilding key sectors of the economy rather than dwelling on the problems left behind by previous administrations.

He described Tinubu’s leadership style as one marked by courage, accountability, and a sense of responsibility amid tough economic realities.

According to the minister, the government met what he called “a dead economy” — a system weakened by heavy debts, inflation, revenue shortfalls, and structural imbalances.

Yet, he emphasized, President Tinubu has avoided the common political practice of blaming predecessors for inherited difficulties. Instead, he has concentrated on introducing difficult but necessary reforms to restore long-term economic health.

Idris urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive as the reforms take effect, explaining that the administration’s economic policies, including subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, were not designed to inflict hardship but to stabilize the nation’s finances and encourage sustainable growth.

He also acknowledged the hardship many citizens are facing, saying the government is aware of the rising cost of living and is working on several interventions aimed at cushioning the impact on vulnerable households.

“The President has never complained about the situation he met on ground,” Idris said. “Rather, he has taken full responsibility and is working tirelessly to correct years of mismanagement and economic decay. This is the hallmark of true leadership.”

The minister appealed to Nigerians to give the government more time, assuring that the ongoing reforms would soon begin to yield visible results across key sectors. He added that the administration’s goal is not only to revive the economy but also to set a foundation for a stronger and more self-reliant Nigeria.

Idris’s comments come as debates continue nationwide over the pace of economic recovery and the impact of Tinubu’s policies on ordinary Nigerians. Despite criticisms, government officials insist the current pain is temporary and necessary for a lasting economic turnaround.
