Trump Envoys Head to Egypt as Hamas Agrees to Release Gaza Hostages

Two senior envoys of U.S. President, Donald Trump departed for Cairo on Saturday to advance negotiations over the release of hostages in Gaza, following Hamas’s acceptance of Trump’s proposed ceasefire framework.

According to a White House official, Trump’s son-in-law and former senior adviser, Jared Kushner, alongside real estate magnate and presidential envoy, Steve Witkoff, will meet with Egyptian officials to finalize details of the hostage release and discuss broader terms aimed at ending the nearly two-year-long conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The development comes amid renewed violence, as Israeli forces launched intense air and ground strikes across Gaza, reportedly targeting Hamas strongholds while civilian casualties continued to mount.

The strikes were said to be in response to rocket fire from militants earlier in the week.

Trump’s ceasefire proposal, presented through diplomatic intermediaries, reportedly includes a phased truce, the exchange of prisoners, and a framework for rebuilding war-torn Gaza under international supervision.

While the full details have not been publicly disclosed, sources suggest it also involves guarantees for Israel’s security and limited political concessions for Hamas.

Egypt, a key mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, has welcomed the latest diplomatic efforts, expressing optimism that “a lasting cessation of hostilities” could soon be achieved. Egyptian intelligence officials are expected to host closed-door meetings with the U.S. envoys, Hamas representatives, and Israeli negotiators in the coming days.

If successful, the talks would mark the first significant breakthrough in months of failed ceasefire attempts and could represent a major diplomatic achievement for Trump, who has positioned himself as a key international broker ahead of the U.S. presidential election.

Meanwhile, humanitarian agencies have renewed calls for an immediate halt to hostilities, citing a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where millions remain displaced with limited access to food, water, and medical aid.
