Tanker, Tipper Collision Causes Diesel Spill on Onitsha–Awka–Enugu Expressway

No fewer than four people narrowly escaped death on Friday morning following a collision between a tipper truck and a diesel-laden tanker near Igbariam Junction along the Onitsha–Awka–Enugu Expressway in Anambra State.

The crash, which occurred at about 9:50 a.m., caused the tanker to topple into a roadside drainage, spilling part of its contents.

Confirming the incident in a traffic update, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, Margaret Onabe, who spoke on behalf of the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, said the accident involved a wine-coloured Mack tipper and a red HOWO tanker with registration number KWR 133 YQ.

Onabe attributed the crash to loss of control by the tipper driver.

She said, “Four persons were involved in the crash, with one adult male sustaining bruises. He was taken to Chira Hospital in Awkuzu for treatment. Thankfully, no lives were lost.”

The incident caused temporary traffic disruption along the busy highway until the vehicles were evacuated.
