Sokoto to Place Graveyard Attendants on Payroll, Expand Islamic Education

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, on Friday announced plans to place graveyard attendants on the government’s payroll and strengthen Islamic education through new and renovated Islamiyya schools.
Aliyu, represented by his Director of Media, Abubakar Bawa, disclosed this at the commissioning of the remodelled Kirare village Jumu’at Mosque and a block of classrooms in Goronyo Local Government Area.
He said the initiative recognises the role of graveyard attendants in society while also promoting religious knowledge and moral values among children.
“For us to correct the wrong perceptions some non-Muslims have about Islam, we must educate our people on the true teachings of the religion. Islamiyya schools are critical in raising a morally sound society,” the governor said.
Aliyu revealed that his administration had awarded contracts for the remodelling of 65 mosques across the state, noting that the Kirare Jumu’at Mosque was the 16th to be commissioned. He urged communities to maintain the facilities and keep them clean.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, commended the government’s commitment to religious infrastructure and called on communities to sustain the projects. He also urged prayers for lasting peace and security in Sokoto and Nigeria.
Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, described the governor’s efforts as people-oriented, highlighting progress in road construction, water supply, agriculture, and security.
The event drew several dignitaries including APC leader Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, former governor Malam Yahaya, Deputy Governor Idris Muhammed Gobir, Minister of Labour and Employment Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Tukur Bala Bodinga, lawmakers, commissioners, and top officials.
