NSCDC FCT Commandant Urges Officers to Prioritise Health for Operational Efficiency

NSCDC FCT Commandant Urges Officers to Prioritise Health for Operational Efficiency

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr Olusola Odumosu, has urged officers and men of the Corps to prioritise their health and physical fitness in order to maintain optimal operational efficiency.

Dr Odumosu made the call on Saturday after leading officers and personnel of the command on a 10-kilometre route march across major parts of the FCT.

According to a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, the exercise kicked off at the FCT Command Headquarters and took the officers through Wuse Market, Wuse Zone 3, Wuye Bridge by NAFDAC, Berger Junction, and back to the command headquarters.

Addressing the participants after the march, the Commandant explained that the initiative was designed not only to improve physical endurance and mental alertness but also to foster teamwork and unity within the Corps.

“As security operatives, our duties demand strength, discipline, and sound health. We cannot protect others effectively if we fail to care for our own well-being,” Dr Odumosu said.

He further noted that regular fitness activities are essential for building resilience, alertness, and esprit de corps, which are critical attributes for personnel engaged in security and emergency operations.

The Commandant commended the officers for their enthusiasm and active participation, urging them to make exercise and healthy living a regular habit rather than a one-off event.

“We must sustain this momentum and ensure that physical training becomes part of our lifestyle. A healthy officer is a productive officer,” he added.

The exercise, which attracted a large turnout of NSCDC officers across various departments, also featured health talks, medical checks, and motivational sessions at the end of the march.

Dr Odumosu reaffirmed the FCT Command’s commitment to maintaining high standards of discipline, welfare, and operational readiness, noting that physical and mental fitness are integral to achieving the Corps’ mandate of safeguarding lives, property, and critical national assets.
