NMA Commends Gov Yahaya for Approving Full Salary Structure for Health Workers in Gombe
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Gombe State branch, has lauded Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for approving the full implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for medical doctors and other health professionals in the state.
The governor made the announcement during the opening ceremony of the maiden Gombe State Health Summit, held from October 2 to 3, 2025.
The implementation is scheduled to take effect from November.
With this approval, salaries of state-employed health workers will now be harmonised with those of their counterparts in federal institutions, thereby eliminating what the NMA described as a “long-standing disparity” that had affected morale and retention of medical professionals in the state.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Dr. Ahmad Girbo, the association described the development as “a landmark approval and a transformative new dawn for the healthcare sector in Gombe State.”
The NMA noted that the decision would not only boost the welfare of doctors and health workers but also strengthen the state’s health system by curbing brain drain and motivating practitioners to deliver improved services.
Dr. Girbo commended Governor Yahaya for what he termed a “bold and visionary intervention,” urging the state government to ensure prompt and full implementation as promised.
He further expressed optimism that the move would position Gombe as a model for other states in prioritising healthcare delivery through better remuneration for frontline workers.
