Grammy Winner, Wynton Marsalis Arrives in Nigeria Ahead of 2025 Runway Jazz Appearance

Nine-time Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and jazz icon, Wynton Marsalis, has arrived in Nigeria ahead of his headline performance at the 2025 Runway Jazz Festival.

Marsalis, who touched down in Lagos on Saturday, expressed excitement about being in Nigeria, describing it as a long-awaited opportunity to connect with Africa’s vibrant music and cultural heritage.

This year’s Runway Jazz event, themed “Timeless Return,” is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 5, and will feature a rich fusion of music, fashion, and culture.

The event aims to position Lagos as a global hub for jazz and creative arts.

Marsalis will perform alongside Nigerian Afrobeat star Made Kuti and other prominent local and international acts.

Organizers say the 2025 edition is designed to celebrate the enduring connection between jazz and African rhythms, while showcasing Nigeria’s growing influence in global entertainment.

Speaking on arrival, Marsalis noted that music remains a universal language that unites people across borders.

“I’ve always wanted to perform in Nigeria, the heartbeat of African creativity. It’s an honor to finally be here,” he said.

Runway Jazz, an annual event that combines live jazz performances with runway fashion, has over the years attracted global attention for its unique blend of artistry and style.

The 2025 edition promises to deliver a memorable experience, celebrating both the legacy of jazz and the dynamism of African fashion.

The concert will hold in Lagos, with guests expected from across Africa, Europe, and the United States.
