First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Honoured as ‘Sarauniyar Yaki’ of Akko Emirate

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been conferred with the traditional title of Sarauniyar Yaki (Queen Warrior) of Akko Emirate in Gombe State.

The conferment, announced on Thursday at the Emir’s palace, was in recognition of her contributions to women empowerment, humanitarian service, and her role in advancing national unity through various initiatives.

The Emir of Akko, Alhaji Umar Atiku, who performed the turbaning ceremony, described Mrs. Tinubu as a worthy recipient of the title, noting that her efforts in uplifting women and children across the country reflect the values of courage and service embodied by the title.

In her remarks, the First Lady expressed gratitude for the honour, pledging to continue supporting programmes that promote education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for women and vulnerable groups.

“This recognition is not just for me but for every Nigerian woman who continues to contribute selflessly to the progress of our great nation,” Mrs. Tinubu said.

The event was attended by top government officials, women leaders, traditional rulers, and members of the political class, who hailed the honour as a testament to the First Lady’s dedication to public service.

The title of Sarauniyar Yaki is traditionally reserved for women of exceptional courage and leadership, symbolizing strength, protection, and advocacy for the community.
