Soludo Hails Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, Urges Unity at Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary
Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has commended President Bola Tinubu for embarking on bold economic reforms, while calling on Nigerians to remain hopeful and united in the face of national challenges.
Speaking at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka during Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary celebration on Wednesday, Soludo described the commemoration as both a celebration of progress and a moment for sober reflection on the nation’s journey since 1960.
The governor highlighted that Nigeria, despite grappling with insecurity, economic hardship, and social strains, still holds immense promise. He stressed that investment in people remains the country’s most valuable asset.
Soludo particularly praised President Tinubu’s economic decisions, including the removal of fuel subsidy and efforts to stabilise the exchange rate. He described the measures as “necessary medicine for an economy long distorted and pampered,” noting that such bold reforms are critical for long-term growth and stability.
He said Nigeria’s independence remains a symbol of hope and freedom for the black race, underscoring that the anniversary should not only be about celebration but also about renewed commitment to building a stronger nation.
“The indomitable spirit of Nigerians has always seen us through difficult times. With vision, hard work, and faith, no obstacle is insurmountable,” Soludo declared.
The former Central Bank governor also urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in unity, stressing that the country’s diversity should be harnessed as a strength rather than a weakness.
The anniversary event in Awka featured a colourful parade, cultural displays, and the presence of top government officials, traditional rulers, students, and community groups who gathered to mark Nigeria’s 65 years of nationhood.
