Nigeria @ 65: Overcome Challenges Through Collective Sacrifice, CAN Charges Nigerians

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on citizens to embrace unity, faith, and collective sacrifice as the country marked its 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Delivering the message in Abuja, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said Nigeria remains a nation blessed with vast human and natural resources but continues to grapple with insecurity, poverty, corruption, and economic hardship.

Okoh stressed that despite these challenges, Nigerians must not lose hope, adding that the sacrifices of the founding fathers should inspire present generations to build a stronger, more united country.

“Nigeria at 65 is a story of resilience. While the pains of insecurity and economic difficulties are real, we must remember that no nation achieves greatness without sacrifice.

This is the time for us to stand together in unity, prayer, and service to one another,” he stated.

He urged the government to prioritize policies that address poverty, promote justice, and ensure equity among all citizens, while also reminding political leaders of their moral duty to deliver on promises and restore public trust.

CAN further encouraged Nigerians to use the independence anniversary to renew their commitment to peace, tolerance, and mutual respect across ethnic and religious divides.

The Christian body expressed optimism that with sincerity of purpose and the collective will of the people, Nigeria’s best years still lie ahead.
