Akpabio to Tinubu: Expect More Opposition Governors in APC Ahead of 2027

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has declared that more governors from opposition parties are set to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio made the disclosure on Tuesday during the public presentation of a book authored by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, titled “Ten Years of Impactful Leadership of the APC Administration in Nigeria,” and the commissioning of projects by President Bola Tinubu in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President said that Nigerians were already witnessing the “positive outcomes” of President Tinubu’s administration, which he argued was convincing opposition leaders to realign with the APC.

“Mr President, with what you have done in the last two years, get ready to receive more governors from the opposition parties. As I speak, there are several governors in Nigeria today who are ready to be received by you,” Akpabio said.

The former Akwa Ibom governor described Tinubu’s leadership as visionary, adding that it has rekindled public confidence in the APC despite initial doubts about the party’s ability to deliver.

He further commended Uzodimma for documenting the achievements of the APC over the last decade, saying the book would serve as a testament to the party’s transformative governance across different sectors.

The development comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 polls, with analysts suggesting that defections from opposition parties could significantly alter the balance of power in the states and at the federal level.
