Residents Stage Protest Against Kidnapping in Kwara State
Residents of Eleyin, Isanlu Isin community in Kwara State, on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest to denounce the rising cases of kidnapping in the state.
The demonstrators, made up of youths, community leaders, women, and other stakeholders, marched through major streets of the town with placards carrying inscriptions such as “Say No to Kidnapping”, “We Want Security, Not Fear” and “Protect Our Communities.”
The protest, tagged “Say No to Kidnapping in Kwara State,” was aimed at drawing the attention of government authorities and security agencies to the urgent need for stronger action against criminal elements terrorising rural communities.
Some of the protesters, who spoke to journalists, lamented the trauma faced by residents due to frequent reports of abductions, noting that many farmers and traders now live in fear of attacks on their way to farms and markets.
They called on the Kwara State Government, traditional rulers, and security operatives to intensify efforts in safeguarding lives and property, stressing that unchecked insecurity could cripple economic and social activities in the area.
The peaceful demonstration is part of a wider outcry across several parts of Nigeria where communities have been demanding more proactive measures against the menace of kidnapping and banditry.
