Police Kill 3 Suspected Kidnappers, Arrest Robbery Suspects in Niger

The Niger State Police Command says its tactical team has killed three suspected kidnappers during a clearance operation in Magama Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the operation was carried out on September 12 at about 6:30 a.m. within Kokolo forest, via Kawo-Auna village in Nasko.

Mr Abiodun explained that the command’s Special Task Team (STT), working in collaboration with operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) and local vigilante members, stormed the forest following credible intelligence on the activities of criminal gangs operating in the area.

“On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun duel. Three of the suspects were neutralised while others escaped with gunshot injuries. One victim was rescued unhurt,” the statement read.

The spokesperson further disclosed that several exhibits were recovered from the scene, including an AK-47 rifle, a locally fabricated gun, and assorted ammunition.

In a separate operation, the police also arrested several robbery suspects allegedly responsible for a string of highway attacks around Kontagora and Rijau axis. Abiodun said the suspects are currently assisting investigators with useful information and will be arraigned in court after the completion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, commended the operatives for their bravery and reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining the onslaught against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

He also urged residents of Niger State to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious movements or persons within their communities.
