Nigeria Cancels Independence Anniversary Parade

The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day on October 1, 2025. In a statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations, the government expressed regret over any inconvenience this might cause, assuring that the cancellation does not diminish the significance of the anniversary.
The parade was part of the celebrations tagged “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation”. Despite canceling the parade, October 1 remains a public holiday to commemorate the nation’s 65th independence anniversary.
The government urged Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda, aimed at building a greater nation. The statement emphasized the importance of collective support in driving the country’s progress.
No reason was given for the cancellation, but the government looks forward to Nigerians rallying behind its initiatives. With the celebration just around the corner, the nation will mark this milestone anniversary without the usual pomp and pageantry of the parade.
