FG Cancels Independence Parade, Retains Other Anniversary Activities
The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Day parade earlier scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, on Monday, the government clarified that the cancellation does not diminish the significance of the milestone.
It stressed that the anniversary will still be celebrated with dignity and enthusiasm through other lined-up programmes.
“All other programmes slated for the Independence Anniversary will remain in effect,” the statement read, noting that the decision was taken in consideration of prevailing circumstances, though no specific reason was given.
The Federal Government expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the development and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests.
It also urged citizens to continue to support the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, aimed at making Nigeria a greater nation.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, attained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960.
This year marks the 65th anniversary of that historic moment.
