Emirates Bans Power Bank Usage Onboard Flights for Safety Reasons

Effective October 1, 2025, Emirates Airlines has prohibited the use of power banks onboard its flights, citing safety concerns related to lithium battery incidents.
The airline has implemented this rule across its entire fleet after conducting a comprehensive safety review that highlighted the risks associated with lithium battery-related incidents in aviation.
Passengers are still allowed to carry one power bank with a capacity under 100 Watt Hours onboard, but they won’t be able to use it to charge devices or be charged themselves using the aircraft’s power supply.
Power banks must be stored in accessible locations within the cabin, such as in the seat pocket or under the seat in front of you, to facilitate quick response in case of emergencies.
The guidelines for passengers are as follows: power banks with a capacity up to 100 Watt Hours can be carried without airline approval, while those with a capacity between 100-160 Watt Hours require prior approval. Power banks cannot be used to charge devices or be charged themselves during flights and must be stored in seat pockets or under the seat in front of you, not in overhead bins or checked luggage.
Emirates recommends that passengers fully charge their devices before flying, especially on long-haul flights, as the airline provides in-seat charging ports on all aircraft. This move aims to minimize the risks associated with lithium batteries and enhance passenger safety.
