Atoyebi, Convener of BAT Ideological Group Faults Kwara South Lawmakers Over Insecurity, Paucity of Projects

The Convener of the BAT Ideological Group, Comrade Bamidele Atoyebi, has accused elected representatives from Kwara South of failing to deliver on their mandate, particularly in the areas of development projects and security.

Speaking in an interview, Atoyebi criticized Senator Lola Ashiru, who currently represents Kwara South in the Senate, for what he described as a lack of verifiable projects or concrete security measures to protect the lives and property of constituents.

He also took aim at the House of Representatives members from the senatorial district, Hon. Abdulraheem Olawuyi representing Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency, and Hon. Ismail Tijani of Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency, saying the lawmakers have yet to carry out meaningful projects in favour of the people.

“They are representing people and they are killing them. Where are the patrol vehicles provided for security patrol? Where are the bulletproof vests and head gear?” Atoyebi asked.

According to him, the worsening insecurity in Kwara South has forced residents to flee their homes for Ilorin and Lagos, with local vigilante groups left to confront bandits without adequate equipment.

The convener revealed that an anonymous source in the zone confirmed to the use rudimentary methods to engage armed groups due to the lack of patrol vehicles and modern anti-banditry equipment.

Although recent military air raids have dispersed some bandit hideouts, Atoyebi warned that without proper logistics, the criminals could regroup and launch attacks from new locations.

He further called on local government chairmen across the seven LGAs of Kwara South, Ekiti, Isin, Irepodun, Oke-Ero, Offa, Oyun, and Ifelodun, to speak out if they are being sidelined by the state government or denied funds needed to provide security equipment.

“If not, they should step down, because they are not representing well and are seen as irresponsible,” he declared.

Atoyebi urged Kwara South lawmakers and council chairmen to prioritize security and accountability, warning that the continued silence of elected officials only deepens the distrust of citizens.
