Vigilante Group Reportedly Confronts Armed Gang in Anambra

A video circulating on social media has drawn attention to a reported confrontation between a local vigilante group and an armed gang said to be terrorizing communities in Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
In the footage, which was posted online with a viewer discretion warning, a cache of weapons and ammunition is displayed on a mat. The narrator claims the arms were recovered after a squad described as “una brother squad (man pass man)” mobilized from Oraifite to pursue the gang.
The alleged gang leader, according to the post, goes by the name “SMALL.”
The incident has sparked widespread discussion online, with community members tagged in the original post urged to take notice. Residents in parts of Awka North have in recent months voiced concerns over repeated cases of insecurity, ranging from armed robbery to kidnappings and attacks on travelers.
While vigilante groups have increasingly taken on roles in confronting armed criminals in Anambra, official security agencies have not yet issued a statement confirming the reported operation in Achalla.
Past incidents, however, show that vigilante outfits in the state have arrested or neutralised suspected gunmen in collaboration with police.
The Anambra State Police Command has previously acknowledged the role of community-based security groups but continues to caution against unverified claims and the circulation of graphic videos online.
As of now, the details of the confrontation, the identity of the alleged gang leader, and the authenticity of the recovered weapons remain unconfirmed by law enforcement authorities.
