Ogun State Accuses Senator Gbenga Daniel of Inciting Public with False Claims Over Road Project

The Ogun State Government has strongly criticized Senator Gbenga Daniel, labeling his comments about Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration as “reckless and misleading” and an attempt to gain “cheap popularity.”
The dispute centers on the 260-meter rehabilitation of the Paddy Arikawe Oye-Igbimo Road in Sagamu, a constituency project sponsored by Daniel.
In a statement, the governor’s media aide, Kayode Akinmade, accused the former Ogun governor of “deliberately distorting facts, inciting the public with false claims, and using pliant media outlets to promote discord and confusion.”
Akinmade refuted Daniel’s accusation that the state government was blocking the project. He clarified that the only directive issued was for the contractor—who had begun work without notifying the state—to “regularize its operations by following laid-down procedures.”
“Only a mind bent on mischief will describe adherence to due process as obstruction,” Akinmade stated, adding that the contractor has since accepted the government’s recommendations, which makes Daniel’s claims “even more misleading.”
Daniel Questioned for Disregard of Due Process
The governor’s aide questioned why Senator Daniel is the only federal lawmaker in Ogun State consistently having disputes with the state government over constituency projects.
Akinmade argued that Daniel’s actions demonstrate a recurring disregard for due process, referencing the senator’s past refusal to submit documents for certain properties in Sagamu during a government verification exercise.
“A genuine statesman would comply with established processes rather than attempt to impose shoddy and unsafe engineering works on the people,” the statement read.
Akinmade further attacked Daniel’s record as governor, asserting that the present administration has built over 1,000 kilometers of roads across the state, contrasting it with Daniel’s construction efforts while in office.
The state concluded that while Daniel may continue his “media war,” Governor Abiodun’s administration will not compromise the rule of law or public safety to please “the whims of a single individual.”
