Nigeria Retains Seat in ICAO Council With 163 Votes
Nigeria has retained its seat on the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) after securing 163 votes out of 185 eligible member states during elections at the 42nd ICAO Assembly in Montreal, Canada.
The country’s representative, Mahmoud Ben-Tukur, was re-elected on Saturday into Part II of the ICAO Council, reinforcing Nigeria’s continued influence in shaping global aviation policies and standards.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
Ben-Tukur’s re-election marks a significant diplomatic victory for Nigeria in the international aviation community, ensuring that the country remains at the forefront of decision-making on issues relating to aviation safety, security, and environmental sustainability.
The ICAO Council is the governing body of the organisation, responsible for adopting international standards and recommended practices in global aviation.
