President Tinubu in Lagos on Working Visit Ahead of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Lagos for a working visit as Nigeria prepares for a modest commemoration of its 65th Independence Anniversary.
The President flew into Lagos on Friday, September 26, after attending the coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Oyo State. His stop in Lagos marks a continuation of nationwide engagements that will also take him to Imo State in the coming days.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu is expected to hold a series of meetings in Lagos with leaders of the private sector and senior government officials.
These discussions are seen as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the government and business community as the country navigates pressing economic challenges.
The visit also forms part of activities leading up to Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, which will be marked on October 1.
The celebrations will be low-key, in line with the government’s decision to cut back on elaborate spending for national ceremonies.
While in Lagos, the President is expected to commission the remodeled National Theatre complex, recently renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, in honour of the Nobel Laureate. The commissioning is scheduled as one of the highlights of the Independence anniversary programme.
After Lagos, Tinubu will proceed to Imo State on September 30, where he is billed to inaugurate a number of projects executed by Governor Hope Uzodimma.
The working visit to Lagos has drawn attention not only for its timing, just days before Independence Day, but also for its focus on private sector engagement and cultural renewal, signaling the administration’s intent to balance infrastructure, economic reform, and national identity in its policy agenda.
