Nketiah’s Late Strike Ends Liverpool’s Unbeaten Run at Selhurst Park

Liverpool’s unbeaten start to the season collapsed on Saturday when Eddie Nketiah fired a 97th-minute winner to hand Crystal Palace a 2–1 victory at Selhurst Park.
Palace stunned the visitors early as Ismaïla Sarr capitalised on a loose ball from a corner in the 9th minute, putting the hosts ahead.
The South London side pressed to double their lead, but Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson denied efforts from Yeremy Pino and Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Liverpool carved out chances of their own before halftime. Ibrahima Konaté headed wide, while Alexander Isak failed to convert after rounding Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
After the break, Liverpool raised the tempo. Substitute Cody Gakpo came close, and Florian Wirtz forced Henderson into a strong save.
Their persistence finally told in the 84th minute when Federico Chiesa bundled the ball over the line.
VAR reviewed the goal for a possible Mohamed Salah handball but allowed it to stand.
Just as the contest seemed destined for a draw, Palace struck again deep into stoppage time. Nketiah reacted fastest inside the box to slot home, sparking jubilant scenes among the home supporters.
The win stretched Palace’s unbeaten run to a club-record 18 matches and lifted them to second place, three points behind Liverpool, who tasted defeat for the first time this season.
