Nalaraba Launches ₦100m Scholarship Scheme for 1,000 Students in Nasarawa

In a major push to expand access to education, the lawmaker representing Awe, Doma, and Keana Federal Constituency, Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, has rolled out a ₦100 million scholarship programme for underprivileged students across Nasarawa State.
Through the Nalaraba Foundation, the initiative awarded 1,000 students with ₦100,000 each to cover tuition fees for at least one academic year. The cash distribution took place on Saturday in Lafia, the state capital.
Nalaraba said the intervention emerged from a needs assessment conducted by his foundation.
“We took statistics and conducted research. We found that tuition in the state university and other institutions was not above N100,000. We decided to cover this for the underprivileged to make a positive impact,” he said.
He explained that community leaders helped identify the beneficiaries.
“We consulted community stakeholders to help select deserving students from each town and village,” he added.
The Chairman of the Nalaraba 2025 Scholarship Grants, Prof. Amirikpa Oyigbenu, confirmed the disbursement and commended the lawmaker.
“In every ward, at least one, two, or three students have benefited. We took care to identify indigent children whose parents cannot afford tuition fees,” Oyigbenu said.
He urged students to use the opportunity responsibly.
“All beneficiaries have received their payments. I call on them to justify this effort so that future empowerment programmes can continue,” he added.
Traditional leader Aren Eggon Ahmed Ubangari also applauded the gesture, while some beneficiaries, including Abimiku David and Safiyanu Bushrat, expressed gratitude for the support.
