‘Rare Gem in History,’ Tinubu Hails Ladoja at Coronation as Olubadan
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the newly crowned 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, as “a rare gem in history,” extolling his virtues of perseverance, integrity, and commitment to service.
The President gave the commendation on Friday in Ibadan during the coronation ceremony of the monarch, held at Mapo Hall, where Oba Ladoja received the staff of office from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Tinubu, who hailed the significance of the occasion, said Ladoja’s elevation to the throne was not only a personal triumph but also a historical milestone for the people of Ibadanland.
“Today is an exciting day. It is a great honour to witness your coronation, to witness history,” the President said. “Your journey to this throne is a testament to perseverance, reliability, and the enduring values that define true leadership. You are indeed a rare gem in history.”
He further noted that Ibadanland, known for its rich cultural heritage and tradition of strong leadership, had gained a monarch whose reign would bring unity, peace, and prosperity to its people.
Governor Makinde, who formally presented the staff of office, also congratulated the Olubadan, assuring him of the state government’s support in promoting peace and development across Oyo State.
Traditional rulers, political leaders, cultural groups, and dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria thronged the ancient city to witness the historic event.
Oba Rashidi Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, succeeds Oba Lekan Balogun, who passed away earlier in the year. His ascension marks a new chapter in the storied history of Ibadan, one of Nigeria’s largest and most influential traditional kingdoms.
