Nasarawa Gov Calls for Special Court to Tackle Corruption
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has called on the National Assembly to establish a special court to handle corruption-related cases in Nigeria, stressing that the move is crucial to strengthening the country’s anti-graft war.
Sule made the appeal on Friday during the Passing Out Parade of Detective Superintendent Cadets Course 10 and Detective Inspector Cadets Course 7 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), held at the Nigeria Police Mobile Force Training College, Akwanga, Nasarawa State.
According to the governor, the current judicial process for corruption trials is slow and cumbersome, often allowing cases to drag on for years without conclusion.
He warned that such delays not only frustrate the efforts of anti-graft agencies but also embolden perpetrators of corruption.
“We must begin to look at the establishment of a special court dedicated solely to corruption cases. This will ensure speedy trials and prevent the unnecessary delays that have long weakened the fight against corruption in our country,” Sule said.
He commended the EFCC for its sustained efforts in combating financial crimes, urging the newly graduated ,cadets to remain diligent, patriotic, and uncompromising in the discharge of their duties.
The governor also stressed that the success of Nigeria’s economic and democratic development depends largely on curbing corruption, which he described as one of the greatest obstacles to national progress.
The ceremony was attended by top EFCC officials, state government functionaries, traditional rulers, and security agencies, who all lauded the call for reforms in the judicial system to enhance the nation’s anti-corruption drive.
