Bandits Attack Jigawa Polytechnic Students’ Hostel, Injure Two, Snatch Phones
Students of Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia, in Jigawa State were thrown into panic on Thursday night after armed bandits invaded their hostel located along Malam Madori road.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the quarters around midnight, assaulting several students in the process.
Two students sustained injuries during the attack, while many others were dispossessed of their mobile phones and other valuables.
The bandits reportedly made attempts to abduct some students but were forced to retreat after the victims raised alarm, attracting the attention of neighbours and passersby.
Confirming the incident on Friday, spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, said security operatives were immediately deployed to the area to restore calm. He added that patrols have been intensified around the school environment to forestall a recurrence.
Meanwhile, the management of Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic has assured parents and guardians that measures are being taken in collaboration with security agencies to safeguard the students.
The attack is the latest in a series of security challenges confronting communities in parts of northern Nigeria, where banditry and abductions have continued to cause fear and disruption to daily life.
