The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a significant reduction in the average retail price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas, across the country in August 2025.

It added that, on a year-on-year basis, the price decreased by 0.40 per cent from ₦6,430.02 recorded in August 2024.

Similarly, the NBS disclosed that the average price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of LPG declined by 21.42 per cent from ₦20,609.48 in July 2025 to ₦16,195.07 in August 2025.

However, on a year-on-year basis, the price rose by 4.13 per cent compared to ₦15,552.56 recorded in August 2024.

According to the bureau, the figures are contained in its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch Report for August 2025, which is available on the NBS website for a full breakdown of state-by-state data.

The latest figures represent one of the steepest month-on-month drops in cooking gas prices in recent years, potentially offering relief to households grappling with rising energy costs.
