Jungle Justice as Mob Burns Suspected Child Kidnapper Alive in Delta Community
A suspected child kidnapper was on Wednesday set ablaze by an angry mob in Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, after a failed attempt to abduct a seven-year-old boy.
The incident, which occurred along Ekwvere Road in the community, threw residents into panic as hundreds trooped to the scene.
Eyewitnesses said that the unidentified lady allegedly concealed the young boy in a sack while moving with a Bible in one hand to avoid suspicion.
However, her suspicious conduct reportedly drew the attention of residents.
“She was dragging the sack on the ground in a strange manner. When some people confronted her to know what was inside, she became unstable and refused to explain. The bag was forced open, and to everyone’s shock, a little boy was found inside,” a community source said.
The discovery triggered outrage as residents raised the alarm, attracting a large crowd.
Before security operatives could intervene, the mob descended on the woman, beating her mercilessly before setting her ablaze.
It was gathered that the child was rescued unhurt and later reunited with his family.
As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The development has reignited debates over jungle justice in the state, with human rights advocates warning that such extrajudicial killings undermine the rule of law, even in cases involving serious crimes like child abduction.
