2027 Showdown: Ganduje Rallies Kano APC in Abuja

Former Governor of Kano State and ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has staged a political comeback ahead of the 2027 general elections by rallying key APC stakeholders from Kano at a strategic meeting in Abuja.

The closed-door meeting was held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, and brought together prominent party figures including Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Senator Kawu Sumaila, members of the House of Representatives and other leaders from Kano State.

Ganduje, who resigned as APC National Chairman on June 27 citing “urgent personal matters,” urged party members to intensify voter registration and grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections.

He stressed that reclaiming Kano State from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) was critical to APC’s electoral success.

“Kano remains a pivotal battleground for our party. We must return to the grassroots and rebuild trust to secure victory at all levels,” Ganduje told the gathering.

Resolutions from the meeting included setting up coordinated structures across Kano’s 44 local government areas to strengthen the APC and wrest power from the NNPP administration led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Despite stepping down as APC National Chairman, Ganduje remains an influential political figure.

He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Thursday’s meeting is seen as the first in a series of engagements to unify and reposition the APC in Kano ahead of the 2027 polls.
