NSC Reaffirms Inclusion of 14 Constituencies in All Sports Federation Boards

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring full representation of all 14 recognised constituencies on the boards of Nigeria’s sports federations, ahead of the forthcoming elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Director of Press, Dr. (Mrs) Kehinde Ajayi, the Commission said the principle of inclusivity remained the cornerstone of sports administration in the country, stressing that no group would be excluded from the decision-making process.

According to the NSC, the 14 constituencies are vital pillars of Nigerian sports governance, and their participation guarantees fairness, transparency, and accountability in the running of the federations.

The constituencies include six zonal representatives from Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, an athletes’ representative, a technical representative, and a representative from the military and paramilitary sectors, among others.

“The democratic structure of sports administration in Nigeria is founded on inclusivity, fairness, and transparency. It is, therefore, imperative that all recognised constituencies are given their rightful place in the leadership of sports federations,” the statement read in part.

The Commission disclosed that its decision followed wide consultations with stakeholders across the sports sector, noting that the move would strengthen governance, encourage broader participation, and ensure the interests of athletes, coaches, administrators, and institutional partners are adequately protected.

Observers say the NSC’s assurance comes at a critical time, as preparations intensify for the National Sports Federations elections, where issues of representation and fairness have often sparked controversies in the past.

The Commission, however, urged stakeholders to maintain confidence in the process, assuring that the forthcoming elections would be credible and reflective of the collective aspirations of the Nigerian sports community.
