Olamide Extols Asake’s Work Ethic, Says He Never Needed Pushing to Succeed

Nigerian rap star and YBNL boss, Olamide has opened up on his admiration for Afrobeats sensation, Asake, describing him as an artist who never needed to be told to put in effort before success came his way.

Speaking in an interview with UK-based media personality, Adesope Olajide, Olamide revealed that while he did not fully anticipate how quickly Asake would rise to global stardom, he always recognized the singer’s uniqueness and relentless drive.

“I didn’t know Asake was going to go that wild, but I knew he was one of one,” Olamide said. “You never have to tell him to put effort because he’s already doing so before you ask.”

The YBNL boss signed Asake in 2022 after years of persistence from the artist, and since then, the “Lonely at the Top” crooner has taken the Afrobeats scene by storm. From sold-out shows across continents to topping global charts, Asake has become one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising international stars, often credited for reshaping the sound of street-pop with his Fuji-inspired vocals and high-energy performances.

Olamide’s comments highlight the synergy between talent and hard work in the Afrobeats industry. He praised Asake’s dedication, noting that the singer’s consistency and hunger for success set him apart even before fame found him.

Since joining YBNL, Asake has released multiple hit singles and albums, cementing his place among the new wave of Nigerian artists pushing the Afrobeats sound to international audiences. Olamide, who has a reputation for spotting and nurturing raw talent, has been widely celebrated for giving Asake the platform to flourish.

Fans have reacted positively to the interview clip, with many praising Olamide for his humility and continued commitment to mentoring young stars in Nigeria’s music industry.

Asake’s meteoric rise remains one of Afrobeats’ biggest success stories in recent years — and according to Olamide, it is only the beginning of what the artist can achieve.
