National Assembly Postpones Resumption of Plenary to October 7
The National Assembly has shifted the resumption of its plenary sessions by two weeks, moving the date from Tuesday, September 23, 2025, to Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Barr. Kamoru Ogunlana, on behalf of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
“I am directed by the Presiding Officers of both Chambers of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that the resumption date of the National Assembly, earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd September 2025, is hereby postponed to Tuesday, 7th October 2025,” the statement read.
Although no reason was given for the postponement, observers note that the extension could be linked to ongoing committee engagements and constituency activities, which lawmakers usually attend to during recess.
The lawmakers had adjourned plenary in July to observe their annual recess, a tradition that allows members to return to their constituencies for oversight and political consultations. With the new date, the National Assembly is expected to reconvene in October to deliberate on key national issues, including the 2026 appropriation bill, pending legislative proposals, and other matters of urgent national importance.
The postponement applies to both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
