Davido Joins Recording Academy as Voting Member, Set to Participate in 2026 GRAMMYs

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Davido has officially been inducted as a voting member of the Recording Academy, the body behind the prestigious GRAMMY Awards.

His membership grants him the right to cast votes and help decide nominees and winners at the 2026 edition of the awards.

The Recording Academy announced the development in a video shared on its social media platforms, featuring Davido alongside other new inductees, including American rapper Offset and renowned drummer Stewart Copeland. In the clip, the singer expressed his excitement, describing the opportunity as “a game changer” for artists who want their voices heard in shaping the industry’s highest honours.

Davido, whose music has been central to the global rise of Afrobeats, has been nominated four times at the GRAMMYs but is yet to win.

His album Timeless was nominated in 2024 for Best Global Music Album, while singles such as Unavailable and Feel earned recognition in performance categories.

Earlier in 2025, his collaboration Sensational with Chris Brown and Lojay also received a nod for Best African Music Performance, though it lost to Tems’ Love Me Jeje.

Industry observers say Davido’s inclusion as a voting member not only underscores his global influence but also marks a significant moment for African music.

It ensures that voices from the continent are increasingly represented in the decision-making process of one of the world’s most respected music institutions.

For fans and stakeholders, the development is another milestone in Afrobeats’ journey to mainstream recognition.

It also positions Davido as both a contender and a decision-maker in the awards he has long pursued, reinforcing his role as one of Africa’s most prominent cultural ambassadors.
