Avoid Roaming Streets During School Hours, Ondo Government Warns Students

The Ondo State Government has cautioned students across the state against roaming the streets during official school hours, warning that defaulters will face strict sanctions.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Igbekele Ajibefun, issued the warning in Akure on Tuesday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Ajibefun disclosed that a task force was being set up in each of the three senatorial districts of the state to monitor students and apprehend those found loitering during school hours.
“The task force comprises mainly retired principals and teachers from the locality to complement the ministry’s efforts. We cannot do it alone,” he said.
The commissioner explained that the initiative followed the directive of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who ordered a clampdown on truancy in schools across the state. According to him, any student caught roaming would not only be sanctioned but the head of the student’s school would also face disciplinary action for failing to enforce discipline.
Ajibefun stressed that the state government was determined to eradicate truancy, ensure strict adherence to school regulations, and promote academic excellence among students.
“Students must desist from roaming the streets during school hours to ensure the realisation of their academic pursuits and parents’ dreams. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration remains committed to providing quality education for all children in Ondo State,” he said.
The commissioner further urged parents and guardians to cooperate with the government and schools in monitoring their children, adding that students should remain focused on their studies to achieve future aspirations.
