NiMet Predicts Three Days Rain, Thunderstorms Nationwide
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast heavy rains and thunder across parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet said the northern region would experience isolated thunderstorms on Monday, with light rainfall expected in parts of Adamawa and Taraba during the morning hours.
Later in the day, similar weather conditions are anticipated over parts of Kaduna, Gombe, Kebbi, Zamfara, Adamawa, Bauchi, southern Borno and Taraba.
For the central states, the agency projected a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine on Monday, though localised thunderstorms are expected over the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Kogi, Benue and Nasarawa in the afternoon and evening hours.
In the southern region, NiMet predicted morning rains over parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers, while thunderstorms are likely over Bayelsa, Delta, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Abia and Imo later in the day.
The forecast further indicated that by Tuesday, isolated thunderstorms would dominate much of the northern region, with the central and southern regions also expected to experience thunderstorms and rains at different times of the day.
On Wednesday, NiMet said thunderstorms would continue in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano and Bauchi in the morning hours, while spread thunderstorms are likely later in the day across most of the country.
The agency advised the public to take necessary precautions as strong winds might precede the rains, urging airline operators and motorists to exercise caution.
It also warned residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant as the rains could increase the risk of flash floods.
NiMet reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely and reliable weather updates to support safety and planning across sectors.
