Court Restrains Abiodun’s Govt, Firms from Trespassing on Ilara Remo Land
The Ogun State High Court, sitting in Sagamu, has extended an interim order restraining Governor Dapo Abiodun, his agents, and two companies from entering or interfering with over 15,000 acres of land belonging to the Ilara Remo community in Remo North Local Government Area.
At the resumed hearing on Monday, Justice O.S. Oloyede granted a three-month extension of the interlocutory injunction earlier issued on September 1, 2025. The extension followed an application by the claimants, who alleged continued attempts by the government and its business partners to take possession of the disputed 15,309 acres.
The companies affected by the order are Industrial Platform Remo Limited and Arise Integrated Industrial Platform, both linked to the state’s industrial development initiatives.
The judge ruled that the order would remain in force pending the regularisation of legal documents by the defence counsels.
Appearing for the first defendant, Governor Abiodun, was Mr. M.O. Enitan, who held the brief for Olasupo Shasore, SAN. Also in court was Mr. W.A. Onawole from the Ministry of Justice, representing the Attorney-General, Commissioner for Justice, and Bureau of Lands. Mr. M.O. Mordi appeared for Industrial Platform Remo, the fourth defendant.
All the defence counsels admitted that they were yet to file and regularise their papers before the court, a development that necessitated the extension of the restraining order.
The case, marked HCS/377/2025 and dated August 18, 2025, was instituted by representatives of Ilara Remo, who argue that the land has been under the lawful possession of their community for generations. They insist that any attempt to acquire or allocate it without due process amounts to unlawful trespass.
Justice Oloyede adjourned the matter to a later date for further hearing.
